ISLA Grant Information

ISLA 2025-2026 GRANT GUIDELINES

The Indiana State Literacy Association (ISLA) seeks to fund projects designed to support councils or members’ efforts to advance literacy in Indiana.  The projects may involve local family/community engagement activities, school improvement efforts, or classroom research (including action research).  Examples include, but are not limited to, the enactment of teacher book clubs, the implementation of project-based learning in the classroom, the examination of the effects of initiating dialogic classroom text discussions on students’ literacy learning, and the creation of literacy-focused dramatic play centers/units.

Grant Funding
Grants of up to $250-$500 will be awarded. The number of awards will vary according to the
number and quality of submissions and is not expected to exceed four (4) per year. ISLA
reserves the right to choose not to fund any projects in a given year (e.g., insufficient
quality).
Note: Grant recipients will be asked to report expenditures and to submit copies of
receipts. Every charge must be documented. Please note that grant funds may not be used to
purchase food or drinks.

Eligibility
Individual councils or members of the Indiana State Literacy Association who are in good
standing may apply. All grantees (including co-applicants) must be current ISLA members and must obtain agreements to support the project from any involved sites or organizations
(e.g., member’s school, community agency) before the grant application’s submission.
